If your talking about the book Esperanza Rising, mama believes that they are fortunate, because she knows that things could be worse. They could of been separated or mama might of had to get married to who Esperanza hates. They at least have a roof over their head and have food fort their stomachs, and are with families faces, and not with strangers.
