What is a Debate
This is primarily a contest of ideas between pre-determined candidates or participants. It is also referred to as an organised argument on a particular topic by two opposing sides.
The candidates in a debate can either be individual members or a team and these are expected to show the strength of their knowledge and arguement as to why they believe in their own side of the topic under discussion.
As stated in the question, the use of a variety of media are acceptable and most especially in this age of technological advances, almost of propositions in a civil society are opened up to debates on television or on the internet.
For instance, the United States Presidential Debate has become a huge aspect and an opportunity for each candidate to connect with the people on views, thoughts, policies and intentions if elected and it is widely transmitted across television stations as well as the internet.
There are 4 types of debates
1. The Lincoln-Douglas debate - this is the two men debate, one candidate against another
2. The Rebuttal Debate - each team from the affirmative and the negative side is composed of about two or three members.
3. The One-Rebuttal Debate- all of the speakers have a chance to refute the argument of the opponent
4. The Oregon-Oxford debate or the cross-question debate - The first speakers on each side are allowed to deliver the entire affirmative case and the entire reverse case in the debate.
