The oceanic zone is mostly aphotic.

Photic zone is the part of the ocean where the light penetrates the depth and gets scattered in the water. This zone makes up a small part of the ocean ecosystem as light penetrates only for a few meters of depth. After this depth the aphotic zone begins where there is absence of light.

Benthic zone is the floor of the ocean where the shelled and aphotic deep sea animals live.
