George Washington and the French General  Comte de Rochambeau combined the  troops .and they were prepared prepared to attack a small Patriot force led by the Marquis de Lafayette. The significance of the conflict was that Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington as French and American forces trapped the British at Yorktown.When the British surrendered at this Battle of York Town  this marked the end of Revolutionary war by the American. when George Washington realized the threat from the officers to the congress was dangerous. Washington's leadership ended the threat.
