To find the x-intercepts (there are two), set the numerator = to 0 and solve the resulting equation for x:

x^2 + x - 12 = 0
Factoring,

(x+4)(x-3) = 0.  Thus, x = -4 and x = 3.  

The denominator has no bearing here.
