The difference between the linear and nonlinear functions are their degrees. For linear functions, the highest order is only 1 while more than for those nonlinear functions. If these are presented in graphs, linear functions would generate straight lines while parabola or other curved lines will be generated for nonlinear functions.

The <em><u>correct answer</u></em> is:

A linear function has a constant rate of change, while a non-linear function does not have a constant rate of change.

Explanation:

As the name implies, a linear function will graph as a straight line. Since it is a straight line, this means that the distance between any two consecutive points must be the same; it must go up or down the same amount between each pair of points, or it will not form a straight line.

This means that a table of a linear function will have consecutive values that either increase or decrease by the same amount.

A non-linear function, on the other hand, will <em>not </em>have these things. It will <em>not </em>graph as a straight line, and each pair of consecutive points will <em>not </em>increase or decrease by the same amount. Instead, they will increase or decrease by different amounts.

Sample Response: A linear function has a constant additive rate of change, while a nonlinear function does not. For a table of values to be linear, the dependent variable must have a constant rate of change as the independent variable increases by 1. On a graph, the function must be a straight line to be linear.

What is the period of the sinusoidal function
rodikova [14]

Answer:

The period of the sine curve is the length of one cycle of the curve. The natural period of the sine curve is 2π. So, a coefficient of b=1 is equivalent to a period of 2π. To get the period of the sine curve for any coefficient b, just divide 2π by the coefficient b to get the new period of the curve.

Which point below is a solution to the equation y = 2x + 3?
Anastasy [175]

Answer:

C (37, 77)

Step-by-step explanation:

<h3>Option A:</h3>

291=2(145)+3\\\\291=290+3\\\\\boxed{291\neq 293}

Option A is not a solution.

<h3>Option B:</h3>

163=2(78)+3\\\\163=156+3\\\\\boxed{163\neq 159}

Option B is not a solution.

<h3>Option C:</h3>

77=2(37)+3\\\\77=74+3\\\\\boxed{77=77}

Option C is a solution.

Hope this helps.

Find the midpoint M of the line segment joining the points S = (-8, 3) and T = (2, -1).
Alex

Step-by-step explanation:

use the midpoint formula

( \frac{xs + xt}{2} \:  \:  \frac{ys + yt}{2} )

substitute into the midpoint formula

( \frac{ - 8 + 2}{2}  \:  \:   \frac{3 + ( - 1)}{2} )

solve the above

(

(3 \:  \: 1)

so the x coordinate if your midpoint is 3

the y coordinate of your midpoint is 1

(3;1)
