Use this information to answers Questions 1 through 7. The U.S. government provides money to each state to maintain the intersta

te highway system in the state. The U.S. can revoke or reduce the money if the states do not safely maintain the highways. The U.S. government is particularly concerned about the speed of traffic on Kansas highways. If there is convincing evidence that the average speed of all interstate highway vehicles in Kansas exceeds the posted speed limit of 70 mph, the federal government will reduce the amount of funding it provides. If there is not convincing evidence, then the government will not reduce the funding.
Kansas Highway Patrol recorded the speed of 450 interstate vehicles and found the mean speed of 70.2 mph with standard deviation 1.6 mph. The U.S. government will use this information to conduct a hypothesis test at significance level 0.01 to decide whether or not to reduce to money sent to Kansas.

Suppose that mu is the true mean speed of all vehicles on the Kansas interstate highway system.

1. What are the null and alternative hypotheses that the U.S. government should test?
2. What is the value of the test statistic?

Answer:

1. Null Hypothesis, H_0 : \mu \leq  70 mph

  Alternate Hypothesis<u>,</u> H_A : \mu > 70 mph

2. Value of test statistics is 2.652.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that Kansas Highway Patrol recorded the speed of 450 interstate vehicles and found the mean speed of 70.2 mph with standard deviation 1.6 mph.

We have to conduct a hypothesis test at significance level 0.01 to decide whether or not to reduce the money sent to Kansas.

<em><u>Let </u></em>\mu<em><u> = true mean speed of all vehicles on the Kansas interstate highway system.</u></em>

SO, <u>Null Hypothesis</u>, H_0 : \mu \leq  70 mph   {means that the federal government will not reduce the amount of funding it provides as the speed limit is less than or equal to 70 mph}

<u>Alternate Hypothesis,</u> H_A : \mu > 70 mph   {means that the federal government will reduce the amount of funding it provides as the speed limit exceed 70 mph}

The test statistics that will be used here is <u>One-sample t test statistics</u> as we don't know about the population standard deviation;

                        T.S.  = \frac{\bar X -\mu}{\frac{s}{\sqrt{n} } }  ~ t_n_-_1

where, \bar X = sample mean speed limit of 450 interstate vehicles = 70.2 mph

             s = sample standard deviation = 1.6 mph

             n = sample of vehicles = 450

So, <em><u>test statistics</u></em>  =   \frac{70.2-70}{\frac{1.6}{\sqrt{450} } }  ~ t_4_4_9

                               =  2.652

<u><em>Hence, the value of test statistics is 2.652.</em></u>

Four ninths plus nine eighteenths :]
goldenfox [79]

Answer:  17/18

In words, this is seventeen eighteenths

==========================================

Work Shown:

4/9 + 9/18

8/18 + 9/18 ... see note below

(8+9)/18

17/18

----------------

note: To go from 4/9 to 8/18, we multiply top and bottom by 2. So that's why 4/9 = 8/18.

The diagram below shows a visual representation of why 4/9 = 8/18.

In the top row, I've drawn out 9 rectangles of the same size. Then I've shaded 4 of the 9 rectangles to represent the fraction 4/9. In the bottom row, I've cut each of those 9 rectangles into two smaller equal pieces, so we have 9*2 = 18 rectangles now. Note how the shaded regions are the same size, so this shows 4 green regions doubles to 2*4 = 8 yellow regions; therefore 4/9 is the same as 8/18.

Help! ASAP!!!
solniwko [45]

Answer:

7.2 units

Step-by-step explanation:

Coordinates of city A = (0, 0)

Coordinates of city B = (6, 4)

Use the distance formula to find the distance between the two cities as follows:

AB = \sqrt{(x_2 - x_1)^2 + (y_2 - y_1)^2}

Let,

A(0, 0) = (x_1, y_1)

B(6, 4) = (x_2, y_2)

Plug in the values into the formula

AB = \sqrt{(6 - 0)^2 + (4 - 0)^2}

AB = \sqrt{(6)^2 + (4)^2}

AB = \sqrt{36 + 16} = \sqrt{52}

AB = 7.2 (nearest tenth)

Write the absolute value equation given the transformations
Evgesh-ka [11]

Answer:

<em>y = - 0.5 | x - 5 | + 2</em><em> </em>

Step-by-step explanation:

g(x) = |x|

1^{st} step - shifts right 5 units: g(x + 5) = | x <u><em>- 5</em></u> |

2^{nd} step - shifts up 2 units: g(x + 5) + 2 = | x - 5 | <u><em>+ 2</em></u>

3^{rd} step - reflected: - g(x + 5) + 2 =<em> - </em>| x - 5 | + 2

4^{th} step - stretched by 0.5: <em>y = - </em><u><em>0.5</em></u><em> | x - 5 | + 2</em>

<em>y = - 0.5 | x - 5 | + 2</em>

a = 2c

35(2c) + 25c = 2660
70c + 25c = 2660
95c = 2660
c = 2660/95
c = 28 <=== there were 28 children tickets

a = 2c
a = 2(28)
a = 56 <== there were 56 adult tickets
