Length = x+5

If you were to use the FOIL rule and multiply out (x+3)(x+5), you would get x^2+8x+15

F = multiply first terms = x*x = x^2

O = multiply outer terms = x*5 = 5x

I = multiply inner terms = 3*x = 3x

L = multiply last terms 3*5 = 15

The four terms we get are x^2, 5x, 3x and 15

Add them up. Combine like terms

x^2+5x+3x+15 = x^2+8x+15

Therefore, (x+3)(x+5) = x^2+8x+15

---------------

With factoring, we think of this process in reverse

What two numbers multiply to 15 and add to 8? Those two numbers happen to be 5 and 3 which is where the (x+5)(x+3) comes from

Estimate the solution to the graph shown below.
Harrizon [31]

Answer:

The answer to your question is 1.- (-3, 4) 2.- (3, 1) None of the choices

Step-by-step explanation:

1.- The solution of a system of equation by the graph method is the point in which the lines cross. In this graph we observe that this point is approximately

(-3, 4).

2.-

Equation 1   x + y = 4

Equation 2  x - y = 2

Solve by the combination method

                   x + y = 4

                  x  -  y = 2

                 2x    0  = 6

                        2x = 6

Solve for x

                          x = 6/2

                          x = 3

Substitute x in equation 1 to find y

                    3 + y = 4

Solve for y

                          y = 4 - 3

                          y = 1

Solution     (3, 1)

A regular-size box of cereal measures 3 1/2 inches by 8 1/2 inches by 15 inches. The manufacturer also sells an individual-size
Phoenix [80]

The individual-size box of cereal is a rectangular prism with a volume of 44.625 inches³.

What is the volume of a rectangular prism?

The volume of rectangular prism of length l, width w and height h is given by:

V = lwh.

In this problem, the standard dimensions are:

  • l = 3(1/2) = 3 + 0.5 = 3.5 inches.
  • w = 8(1/2) = 8 + 0.5 = 8.5 inches.
  • h = 15 inches.

The individual-size box has a 1/10 of the volume of the original box, hence:

V = 0.1 x 3.5 x 8.5 x 15 = 44.625 inches³.
