I believe that Poe's short story would be effective in any period and time that the story took place.

Poe's stories would be effective at any time, because Poe uses several literary devices, within an exciting narrative, to convey universal and timeless sensations such as fear, anguish, terror, despair and insecurity.

These feelings have been felt by humanity since the beginning, which allows Poe's short stories to be able to involve the reader regardless of the period of time the reader is in and the period of time in which the story takes place.
