Well it decreased because of all the bombing and shooting going on and so many people that where not even involved with the war die. The presentdent at that time wanted to test out this new bomb see how bad it was. it killed nearly almost every one there. then on top of that you had hitler killing Jews for no reason so many lives where taking at that time. hope this helped :)
