Well it decreased because of all the bombing and shooting going on and so many people that where not even involved with the war die. The presentdent at that time wanted to test out this new bomb see how bad it was. it killed nearly almost every one there. then on top of that you had hitler killing Jews for no reason so many lives where taking at that time. hope this helped :)

They believed that it was best served by valuing reason over desire. This comes as no surprise considering that it was a time of enlightenment and that people should educated themselves and be sensible, a lot more than they should be emotional and envious and things like that.
