Romanticism came as a reaction to enlightenment. The ideas of nationality and homeland started developing more and a pride in being a member of a country started growing. It really depends on the perspective you put it into. If you were a African that was taken from your home land, and forced to board a ship with hundreds of other Africans were you could barely stand, wouldn't you say the trade of slaves?
