1. Which of the following are factors that both unicellular and multicellular organisms actively balance in order to achieve hom

eostasis? (1 point)
A.size, shape, and mass
B.texture, density, and flexibility
C.wastes, nutrients, and water
D.sound, light, and temperature
2. What would be the outcome of a unicellular organism that cannot maintain homeostasis? (1 point)
A.It dies.
B.It divides.
C.It shrinks.
D.It grows larger.
3.Which of the following statements are true? (1 point)
A.both unicellular and multicellular organisms are at risks of having too much water entering their cells if they are exposed to water containing no salts
B.only multicellular organisms have structures that enable them to regulate excess water entering their cells
C.unicellular organisms can protect themselves against too much water uptake by closing their membrane channels that allow water transport
D.Unicellular organisms, but not multicellular organisms, must deal with the movement of water osmosis across their cell membranes
4.How are cells in a multicellular organism able to achieve homeostasis?
A.they are uniform in function and work independently from one another

The correct options are as follows:
1. C
Homeostasis is the process by which living organisms maintains constant internal environment. Maintaining homeostasis is very important because the survival of the living organism depend on it. In order to maintain homeostasis, the amount of wastes, nutrients and water that is in an organism must be controlled and maintained at optimum level.
2. A.
An organism that can not maintain an homeostasis will die. This is because, lack of homeostasis will disrupt the biochemical reactions which sustains the life activities of the organism and once the biochemical reactions that produce life energy can no longer take place the organism will die.
3. A.
For both unicellular and multi cellular organisms, when they are exposed to water containing no salt, much of the water will move into their cells. This happened because, the level of salt in the interior of the living cells is higher and so the water will move from the medium which has no salt to the inside to the cell where there is salt. This process is known as osmosis. In osmosis water move through a semi permeable membrane from the region of low salt concentration level to the region of higher salt level concentration.
4. D.
Cells in living organisms are able to maintain homeostasis by specializing in specific functions and by working together in cooperatively. Each cell has its own functions which it performs; in the process of its duty, it communicates with other cells which also help it in order to achieve common goals, which is maintenance of homeostasis within the cell.

Can you tell from this tree whether a C at position 15 evolved before or after a T at position 15? Explain your answer
Ratling [72]

The evolutionary tree is not observed here but it is possible to answer this question by observing which nucleotide is found in the root of the node. It indicates the first substitution.

What is an evolutionary tree?

A phylogenetic evolutionary tree is a diagram used to show the evolution of a given taxonomic group (for example, a group of species).

It is possible to trace the evolution of a given taxon by tracing the nucleotide substitution observed from a common ancestor.

In an evolutionary tree, the root of the node is represented by the common ancestor and therefore the presence of a particular nucleotide (either T or C) in that position can be considered as the ancestral character.
