Presidential corruption and lying
Vietnam, Watergate, conflict with Iran, and the revelation of coups and funding of rebels through the Nixon--Reagan presidencies caused citizens to become more cynical of the government. The average citizen began to believe that the government could be expected to lie and cheat their way through politics meanwhile putting American lives in danger.
The consequences of this resulting in citizens not believing their leaders or not knowing who to believe. Presidencies have been criticized more and citizens are not surprised when scandal occurs. This has led to elected presidents who are "outsiders" or lack political experience such as Jimmy Carter or Donald Trump.
In 1973 Chile had a military coup supported by the United States to remove president Salvador Allende from power.
Salvador Allende was the first socialist to win presidential elections in South America. He was the candidate of the Unión Popular party in the elections of 1970.
Liberal and conservative citizens, alongside military leaders, turned to the USA for help in the organization of a military coup. At the same time, President Nixon and Kissinger wanted to interfere in order to avoid the spread of communism in South America. According to documents from the White House, the USA cooperated in sending intelligence, weapons, and soldiers.
The coup took place in September of 1973 and was commanded by General Augusto Pinochet, who became president of Chile and governed until 1990. The military forces surrounded the house of government, La Moneda, asking for Allende's resignation. After resisting for half a day, the president died.

Mona Lisa

Mona Lisa is a half length painting of a woman painted in the renaissance period. The woman has a tiny smile so small you have to really look to see it. The painting is very somber with greens and browns. The woman’s sitting with her hands crossed across her abdomen. She is wearing a brown dress with a brown shawl draped on. Her nose is long and slender, she had high defined cheekbones, and tiny lips. The woman’s hair is straight, brown, and middle parted.
What sticks out the most is Mona Lisa’s smile.
This sticks out because despite how sad the painting looks she is smiling nonetheless.
The artist might have wanted to show the lady’s beauty and the theme.
I think the meaning was to just show of Lisa’s looks.
The tone is low and somber and haunting as her eyes follow you and her tiny smile.
I like this piece because it is a classic honored by many that holds emotion.
