The cultural elements that these city-states shared were:

The Maya had independent city-states with cultural ties such as traditions, language, religion, clothing, rites, art, trade, writing, cosmogony, mathematics, science, and architecture.

The Maya lived in Southern Mexico and parts of Central America, where today we find the mexican states of Yucatan, Chiapas, Tabasco, and countries like Belize and Guatemala. The Maya had great cities such as Chichen Itza, Palenque, Tikal or Uxmal, that nowadays still astonish anthropologist for its impressive architecture, traditions, religious buildings, astronomy, and hieroglyphics.
