This kind of communication occurs in various social groups, relationships and work environments. Most times the defensive individual responds respond to another individual as a result of a perceived threat; this could be triggered by insecurity or anxiety or a feeling of being controlled.
For example, in a workplace a subordinate may find his manager as being judgmental or wicked and hence, give defensive reactions to the boss leading to burnout.
