How do you solve an equation with one variable?

Mathematics

To solve an equation with one variable, you must use the inverse order of operations to get the variable alone. This means you must try to cancel out the constants and variables on either side of the equation in order to get the variable on one side of the equation and the constants on the other side of the equation, so that you can determine the value for the variable. I have provided an example below:

3x - 5 = 10

To begin to solve this equation, we must begin by adding 5 to both sides of the equation. We do this so that we can get the variable term alone on the left side of the equation and move the constant terms to the right side of the situation.

3x - 5 + 5 = 10 + 5

3x = 15

Next, we should divide both sides by 3 to cancel out the multiplication on the left side of the equation and get the variable x completely alone.

3x/3 = 15/3

x = 5

Therefore, your answer is 5.

If you need any more help with solving these types of equations, feel free to ask.

Hope this helps!

What is the directrix of the parabola defined by 1/4(y 3)=(x-2)^2?
attashe74 [19]
For
(x-h)^2=4p(y-k)
vertex=(h,k)
p=vertical distance from vertex to directix
when p is negative, the directix is above the vertex
when p is positive, the directix is below the vertex

(x-2)^2=1/4(y+3)
(x-2)^2=4(1/16)(y+3)
p=1/16
it's positive so we know directix is below vertex
vertex is (2,-3)
go 1/16 down
-3-1/16=-48/16-1/16=-49/16
directix is y=-49/16 aka y=-3.0625

Answer:

$667.80

Step-by-step explanation:

30% of 900 is 270, so the price of the TV would be 630 without the tax. 6% of 630 is 37.8, so in total, the price would be $667.80

P(n)=n to the second power-2n; find p(-7)

Please help!
Paladinen [302]
So first of the equation is p(n)=n^2-2n. So now we just plug in -7. p(-7)=-7^2-2(-7). after solving that you get p(-7)=63.
