You would have to try on order to hurt yourself. Assuming you did the proper procedures Before and the specimen is fully in sight on the x and y axis and height is the only other thing to look at, then grab the fine adjustment knob ( the smaller coarse adjustment knob), and move it to the desired height. If the specimen starts to get blurry, turn the other way. This is a lot easier if your hand doesn’t move a lot when being held still

To focus a microscope using a high power lens one should follow the following steps:

1. Place the slide containing the sample onto the stage  

2. Turn the turret and fix the high power lens into its position  

3. focus the slide from the eyepiece or objective lens.

4. adjust the stage and focus the slide with the focus knob.

The safety precaution one must be aware of is that while focusing the slide, one must turn the knob in a way that it should not crack the slide as it will add glass and dust to the lens.
