Genes are found in all cells of the body. They’re like chemical codes that determine a person’s physical traits. Genes determine

a person’s height, skin color, eye color, blood type, and many other things.
To see if people with the same genes had about the same intelligence levels, a group of scientists conducted a study of 20 pairs of twins. Ten pairs were identical twins, both developing from the same egg in their mother. The other ten pairs were fraternal twins. They were born at the same time but from different eggs in the mother. Identical twins have almost identical sets of genes, but fraternal twins don’t. After studying the 20 pairs of twins for 10 years, all of the individuals were given an intelligence test. Scientists found that the intelligence scores of the identical twins were very close. Overall, the test scores of the identical twins were much closer together than those of the pairs of fraternal twins.

1. What conclusion can you draw from the paragraphs?

2. List the main facts that helped you draw your conclusion.

Answer:

1  People with identical genes have very similar scores on intelligence tests.

2   A person’s genes determine many of their physical traits. Identical twins have nearly the same genes. Fraternal twins have different genes. The intelligence scores of identical twins were much closer together than those of fraternal twins.

3  A candle flame is compared to love.

4    Love is not to be spoken. It’s to be held inside. To express love, we should whisper hopeful words to each other, especially at a time when things may look bleak and hopeless.

1. Identical twins are more likely to have roughly equal intelligence levels than fraternal twins.

2. "<span>Overall, the test scores of the identical twins were much closer together than those of the pairs of fraternal twins."

</span><span>"Ten pairs were identical twins, both developing from the same egg in their mother. The other ten pairs were fraternal twins."

The paragraphs compare the two, but show that it builds to that conclusion by showing those details. These seem like opening paragraphs too, so the final sentence would be the thesis statement. The thesis statement normally tells the reader the author's claim, so those two quotes I pointed out are its supporting details.</span>

Write the correct form of each incorrect pronoun.
Elis [28]

The correct answer is: Nobody knows everything he or she can about the brain.

Explanation:

There are different types of pronouns. They help to replace the noun in a sentence. In this case, the word "<em>Nobody</em>" is part of the indefinite pronouns and they are always used in the singular. So, it is necessary to change the personal pronoun "<em>They</em>" for the singular "<em>He or She</em>".

Machiavelli uses reasoning and an example as evidence in an argumentative structure to support his claim that a prince must destroy a city that is accustomed to freedom if he wants to hold it.
