In at LEAST ONE HUNDRED WORDS, discuss how the man with the umbrella in Sorrentino's “There's a Man in the Habit of
Leni [432]

Answer:

An extended metaphor is a metaphor that compares two unlike objects without using like or as, but unlike a metaphor it continues throughout the story to help develop the theme. The man with the umbrella in Sorrentino's "There's a Man in the Habit of Hitting Me on the Head with an Umbrella" is an example of an extended metaphor and he helps convey the central theme. The theme, in this case, is to not take for granted what you have because like your annoying siblings or overbearing parents you may not appreciate them in the moment but without them one would be completely devastated. The narrator also feels this way about the man with the umbrella since he hates and despises him at first but as time goes on, " I have recently come to the realization that I couldn't live without those blows." according to the text. Essentially, the audience realizes that you must not take even the things you despise for granted because in the end you will greatly miss it.

Hope this helps :)

Which is an example of faulty coordination?
Vitek1552 [10]
The sentence that is an example of a faulty coordination is: The guitar is used in a lot of contemporary music, and the instrument probably originated in Spain during the 1500s. What makes this sentence's coordination faulty is that, the first part talks about guitars are used in contemporary music, but on the second clause, the topic became the history of the instrument. There is no coherence in the sentence.

Theroux’s essay was written in 1983. Which of his points are outdated? Which ones do you think remain true today?
UkoKoshka [18]

Answer:

Theroux’s points are all accurate to this day. He presents certain objectives that are still presented today among women and men. Specifically, Theroux utilizes factors such as ‘ In a sense, little girls are traditionally urged to please adults with a kind of coquettishness, while boys are enjoined to behave like monkeys towards each other. The nine year old coquette proceeds to become womanish in a subtle power game in which she learns to be sexually indispensable, socially decorative and always alert to a man’s sense of inadequacy’ and ‘Femininity — being ladylike — implies needing a man as witness and seducer; but masculinity celebrates the exclusive company of men. That is why it is so grotesque; and that is also why there is no manliness without inadequacy — because it denies men the natural friendship of women.’ This evidence depicts how even in the present day, his theories among both genders continue to remain accurate.
