Chaparral refers to the shrubland primarily found in California and in the northern portion of Peninsula.
It is mainly shaped or regulated by the Mediterranean climate and wildfires.
Initially, they grow as woody shrubs which are thick and leathery. They contain green leaves throughout the year due to which they are also termed as evergreen. In addition, they are drought resistant.
These shrubs are highly flammable when conditions are hot and dry such as present during late summer and autumn.
