The answer is Virginia. Virginia was the first colony that legalized slavery in 1661.

EXPLANATION

Slavery cases in Virginia had happened since 1619. First, the white indentured servants were the ones who worked at the company for labor. After August 1619, the Africans started to come to Virginia. They came because they were brought by the frigate “White Lion”, or also known as a privateer ship. The ship was owned by a man named Robert Rich. Originally, there were only 20 Africans that were seized by the British crew.

Virginia was the first colony that passed the law for every free person to have their own slaves. A lot of other laws regarding slavery continued to be applied until the 17th century. It was then codified into the first slave code in Virginia. There was also a law that stated that children would take their mother’s social status, regardless of who their fathers were. This law results affected the people for years. There were generation after generation enslaved persons, and also some mixed-raced children.

A lot of the slaves were actually being freed after the law of enslavement in 1661. The freedom of some slaves was obtained by escape, or purchasing the freedom of themselves, or even by the kind hearts of their masters. The masters might free the slaves because they began to have family-type ties.

Anthony Johnson was the first Africans to be freed from enslavement because he bought his own freedom. Soon after that, he also freed his own family by purchasing their freedom. Later on, Johnson had his own land and grew tobacco for a living.

Alina [70]

The native population of Central America between the years 1540 and 1580 was decimated.

Explanation:

Before the Europeans arrived in Central America, there were numerous thriving native populations. When the Spanish arrived though, this all changed. The Spanish came with few goals, all of which were causing enormous damage to the native populations. Some of the goals of the Spanish were:

  • gaining as much gold and silver as possible
  • conquering as much territory as possible
  • spreading their culture and religion

In order to do these things, the Spanish entered in conflict with the native populations. Having superior weapons, and using the local conflicts, the Spanish managed to kill lot of people in this region. While this was devastating on its own, the diseases that spread from the Spanish on the natives had even worse effect, as they didn't had the immune system to cope with them and experienced mass dying out.

The native populations had dramatic lose in numbers, and with the invasion of the Spanish, and their aggression toward their culture and beliefs resulted in rapid demographic change between 1540 and 1580. Some of the native populations that were affected by this were:

  • Aztec
  • Zapotec

Why might Jefferson have left the<br> national bank alone?
Sergio [31]
A national bank unfairly favored wealthy businessmen in urban areas over farmers in the country.

Thomas Jefferson believed this national bank was unconstitutional. In contrast to Hamilton, Jefferson believed that states should charter their own banks and that a national bank unfairly favored wealthy businessmen in urban areas over farmers in the country.
