The ladder, the wall and the floor form together a triangle rectangle, where the ladder is the hypotenuse of the triangle and the floor and wall are the cathetus. We know from Pythagoreas theorem that the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the two cathetus squared added, so we can write an equation with the data we have:
hyp^2 = cath1^2 + cath2^2
<span>hyp^2 = wall^2 + floor^2
</span>so we have the hypotenuse value, the floor value and the unknown is the wall height:
(22)^2 = wall^2 + (7)^2
484 = wall^2 + 49
wall^2 = 484 - 49 = 435
wall = √435
wall = 20.9
therefore the ladder touches the wall 20.9 feet above the ground

At a certain auto parts manufacturer, the Quality Control division has determined that one of the machines produces defective pa
11Alexandr11 [23.1K]

Answer:

Probability that fewer than 2 of these parts are defective is 0.604.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that at a certain auto parts manufacturer, the Quality Control division has determined that one of the machines produces defective parts 19% of the time.

A random sample of 7 parts produced by this machine is chosen.

The above situation can be represented through Binomial distribution;

P(X=r) = \binom{n}{r}p^{r} (1-p)^{n-r} ; x = 0,1,2,3,.....

where, n = number of trials (samples) taken = 7 parts

            r = number of success = fewer than 2

           p = probability of success which in our question is % of defective

                 parts produced by one of the machine, i.e; 19%

<em>LET X = Number of parts that are defective</em>

<u>So, it means X ~ Binom(n = 7, p = 0.19)</u>

Now, probability that fewer than 2 of these parts are defective is given by = P(X < 2)

    P(X < 2) = P(X = 0) + P(X = 1)

                  =  \binom{7}{0}\times 0.19^{0} \times (1-0.19)^{7-0}+ \binom{7}{1}\times 0.19^{1} \times (1-0.19)^{7-1}

                  =  1 \times 1 \times 0.81^{7} +7 \times 01.9^{1} \times 0.81^{6}

                  =  <u>0.604</u>

<em>Therefore, the probability that fewer than 2 of these parts are defective is 0.604.</em>

Find an equation for the perpendicular bisector of the line segment whose endpoints are (8,-5)(8,−5) and (4,3)(4,3).
Marysya12 [62]

Answer:

Correct answer\\y=\frac{1}{2} x-4

Step-by-step explanation:

y-\frac{-5+3}{2} =\frac{-1}{\frac{3-(-5)}{4-8} } (x-\frac{4+8}{2} )\\y+1=\frac{1}{2} (x-6)\\y=\frac{1}{2} x-4

Rachel reads 1/5 of the pages of a book plus 12 pages on the first day.
kkurt [141]

Answer:

Let's say that the whole book have 5a pages.

First day: a + 12

Second day: (4a)1/4+15= a + 15

Third day: (1/3)[ 4a - (a+15)] +18= a + 13

Forth day: 70

So we get this:

(a + 12) + (a + 15) + (a + 13) + 70 = 5a

a + 12 + a + 15 + a + 13 + 70 = 5a

3a + 110 = 5a

3a - 5a = -110

-2a = -110

a = 55

5a = 5(55) = 275

So the total pages are in the book is:

275 pages
