Once you understand what is counts as a simile and what counts as a metaphor it would become more easier.

A simile is a comparison of at least two things using the words "like" or "as".

For example, the usage of a simile can include:

Tom is like a mountain goat, leaping from one rock to another.

Note the comparison of Tom to a mountain goat, and the usage of "like", or being similar too.

Another example can be:

James was as brave as a lion, strong as a bear, leapt like a gazelle, and as smart as Einstein.

Note the comparison of James to many different animals as well as a famous person.

The next thing that you should be learning is Metaphor, which is kind of related to similes.

Metaphors is a comparison, but without using the words "like" or "as"

For example, the usage of a metaphor can include:

Her long hair flowed down like a river.

While "like" or "as" was not used, her hair was compared to a river.

When you understand this concept it would be very very useful, especially when writing essays. Most of the time you may need to compare things, such as products, ideas/beliefs, and even different civilizations within a time period (specifically in history class). Understanding how to use similes & metaphors can help enhance your writing.

The three basic components of the production of speech are respiration, phonation, and?
Phantasy [73]

The three basic components of the production of speech are respiration, phonation, and articulation.

Because It involves four processes: phonation, articulation, and the oro-nasal process. The configuration and interaction of the articulators during the production of a spoken sound are known as the method of articulation in articulatory phonetics. The stricture—or, more specifically, the proximity of the speech organs to one another—is a factor in style.

Sound-making is referred to as articulation. Together, the lips, tongue, teeth, palate (roof of the mouth), and respiratory system work in unison to create sounds (lungs). For speech, a variety of nerves and muscles are used. There is no pause button for an audience. They are unable to rewind and replay a speech to make it clearer. Your voice is the vehicle via which your message travels, so it is crucial that you speak as clearly as you can.

I grimaced as I walked into my apartment and recognized the familiar smell of my roommate’s cooking.
trasher [3.6K]

“Aroma” is the connotation of the word “smell” in the above sentence.

All the words “aroma,” “stench,” “scent” and “fragrance” are related to smell but of different types. “Aroma” basically defines the smell from the food mixed with that of flowers contributing to building the ambiance of a place. “Stench” on the other hand is a foul and unpleasant smell. “Scent” and “fragrance” both are equivalent words to define the sweet and pleasant smell especially smell of flowers, perfumes etc.
