For years, China had enjoyed a favorable balance of trade with foreign nations. But the British trade of Opium with China disrupted the economy in the early 1800s and led to wars between the two nations.

The illegal trade of Opium that Britain was having with China caused a deep disruption of society and economy, leading to the First and Second Opium Wars.

Opium

Explanation:

British Opium Trade with China resulted in shifting Gold reserves from China to Britain because of huge trade surplus resulting from Opium trade. China tried to stop Opium trade which led to war between the two states. The first Opium War was fought in 1839 and the second Opium War in 1860. These wars resulted in weaking on Qing Dynasty in China and forced it to open trade with other nations.

The 19th amendment allowed for what? what were some characteristics of "flappers" (the modern woman of the 20s)? what were some
Liono4ka [1.6K]
The 19th amendment gave women the right to vote in US elections. This law was passed in 1920.

Flappers were women during the 1920's who abandon tradition. Before this time, women were expected to wear long dresses similar to the ones worn in the Victorian era in Europe. Instead, flappers were dresses that were shorter (usually showed their ankles or knees). Along with this, flappers loved to listen to music, got short hair cuts (also called a bob cut), and partied in speakeasies.

During the 1920's, jazz exploded onto the scene thanks to the Harlem Renaissance. Thanks to musicians like Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington, jazz music became one of the most popular types of music in the United States. This jazz music was played in several different venues. This include speakeasies and clubs devoted to jazz like the famous "Cotton Club."

Is it true that criminal laws deals with people who have been accused of acts that harm society
worty [1.4K]
Generally, I would say yes to this question.

We may want to nuance the thought a bit, however.  Criminal law defines what acts constitute crimes, and those who commit crimes are prosecuted and punished under criminal law.  Do all crimes hurt society?  In a sense, yes.  But even a crime that has just one victim and isn't much noticed in the wider spectrum of society still is a crime subject to arrest and prosecution under criminal law.
