Kelsey solved the following equation:
Tems11 [23]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

 (a) 1. Distributive property 2. Combine like terms 3. Addition property of equality 4. Division property of equality

Step-by-step explanation:

Replacement of -1/2(8x +2) by -4x -1 is use of the distributive property, eliminating choices B and D.

In step 3, addition of 1 to both sides of the equation is use of the addition property of equality, eliminating choice C. This leaves only choice A.

_____

Additional comment

This problem makes a distinction between the addition property of equality and the subtraction property of equality. They are essentially the same property, since addition of +1 is the same as subtraction of -1. The result shown in Step 3 could be from addition of +1 to both sides of the equation, or it could be from subtraction of -1 from both sides of the equation.

In general, you want to add the opposite of the number you don't want. Here, that number is -1, so we add +1. Of course, adding an opposite is the same as subtracting.

In short, you can argue both choices A and C have correct justifications. The only reason to prefer choice A is that we usually think of adding positive numbers as addition, and adding negative numbers as subtraction.

A rectangle is 2/5 in. long and 1/3 in. wide. What is the area of the rectangle? Enter your answer in the box as a fraction in s
MrRissso [65]
Funny I just answered the same exact question just a minute ago, but anyway the area formula is A=L*W, so that means that you need to multiply 2/5 times 1/3 to get the area. Once you do that it wants you to put it in the simplest form, which only means to reduce it down, unless it doesn't need too. Like if I got 10/20, the simplest form would be 1/2, because 10/20 is the same as 1/2, just reduced down. Apply the same logic to your problem and you will get your answer

Helpp please !!!!!!!!!!
Oksi-84 [34.3K]

Answer:

x= 4

m<ABC= 56

Step-by-step explanation:

since BD bisects, both sides of the angle are equal.

So we can set up an equation like this: <ABD=<CBD

(9x-8)=(5x+8) calculate for x

you'll find x=4

then put four into one of the angle equations

9(4)-8=28

now we know each side of the angle is 28, double it to find the whole (<ABC)

28+28=56
