How did President Lincoln's assassination affect the nation

History
1 answer:
maria [59]3 years ago
4 0
Lincoln was the first U.S. president to be assassinated. Thus, his death was a test for the country and the strength of its constitutional plan of succession. Some countries noted this fact, and their acknowledgement of Andrew Johnson’s presidency demonstrated that his government was viewed as legitimate in the eyes of the world community. The response from China, for example, embodied both regret and reassurance that the transfer of power was perceived as smooth. Prince Kung, Chief Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, wrote on July 8, 1865, that the announcement of Lincoln’s death “inexpressibly shocked and startled me.” Nevertheless, the news that “on the same day the Vice-President succeeded to the position without any disturbance, and the assassin had been arrested, so that the affairs of government were going on quietly as usual” seemed to satisfy the Prince’s worry, and he hoped that these facts would also “alleviate your grief at the event.”

How did the qin dynasty best reflect legalist principles of governance
asambeis [7]

Legalism is a philosophical current that was born in China during the warring states era, between 475 and 221 BCE. Initially proclaimed by philosophers like Shang Yang, Li Si and Hanfeizi, this philosophy became the framework under which the Qin dynasty worked and led the first of all the Chinese empires.

Before 475, China was divided into smaller feudal territories and one such territories was governed by the Qin. The Qin, were steadfast legalists who believed strongly in the incapacity of people to rule themselves and to control themselves. Which is why they advocated and practiced the setting of rigid rules, educational campaigns to force the people to believe what they believed and a system of punishment and awarding that came into effect depending on the behavior of people. The Qin, though a strong and the  first Chinese empire, did not last very long precisely because of its stringent and almost brutal principles. Another thing legalists, and especially the Qin, believed, was that the power of a ruler did not come from the election of the people, but through divine selection, which made the emperor unaccountable to anyone for his decisions and freed him from any kind of control by the people.

Finally, because the Qin strongly believed in rules and thought that rules and their upholding justified any means, they used the Mandate of Heaven to impose their ruling on the newly conquered territories and justified their power under this Mandate that people believed was sent by the gods. This is why, the correct answer would be D.

The highest in the world, the mountains are located in northeast India and were created when the subcontinent of India pushed in
Annette [7]

Answer:

B. Himalayan

Explanation:

The highest mountain range in the world, the Himalayan Mountain Range, has formed at the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian continental masses. The India continent was a small one that separated from the much larger ancient continent Gondwanaland. As it separated, it started moving toward northeast, eventually closing down the Tethys Ocean, and colliding with Eurasia. As the two continental masses started to push against one another, the crust started to lift up because of the enormous pressure, thus gradually creating a mountain range. This process is still not over, and the Himalayas are still growing in elevation, with estimated 8 cm plus each year.
