Left

A is correct. The verb tense does not disagree.

B  is incorrect. She opened her wallet (that's now). The 20s were gone (that's past)

C is correct.

D paid and ate disagree. paid happened yesterday. ate happened right now. This sentence is incorrect.

E was afraid is past. Up to date does not quite agree. Looks like A and C.

Second (Scrooge 2 choices).

By now you should understand that D and E are rubbish. He wants to live the rest of his life in the way the spirits have dictated he should -- especially the spirit of Christmas yet to Come.

There's no pretense in Scrooge, none what ever. He has been through the very worst night of his life. B can join D and E.

That pretty much leaves you with A and C. They are both correct and are infinity better than BD and E. The wording of A could be better, but it's OK as a choice.

Three (3rd from the left)

You have to pick the line beginning "Why wasn't he natural during his lifetime." Those lines express the very essence of dying alone. There is no one there to mourn his passing. What remains behind  if one takes what the scavengers are saying to be true, is collected by the old woman and her cohorts and when they've picked over everything, it's as though Scrooge had never lived at all.

I'm leaving you to come up with a second one if you think there is one.

Right

I protagonist does not have to be anyone whom you would feel sympathetic about. They do not support all other central characters.  They don't have to change in any way. (Although they usually do).

The choice is between A and E. If notes came with this question, you should consult them. Whatever the notes say is what you have to pick and both are possible and since this is English Literature there could be another one that is the answer.  Marginally I would pick E but that would never be true of someone like Steve McQueen in many of his movies.

What's the difference between vague and precise verbs?
m_a_m_a [10]

The correct answer is Precise verbs are easier to imagine

Explanation:

Precise verbs differ from vague verbs because these refer to very specific actions or states. For example, the verbs "mutter" or "crawl" are precise verbs because these refer to very specific actions. On the other hand, the verb "move" is vague because this does not explain how the movement occurs. Moreover, precise verbs allow the reader to imagine precisely the action described, and therefore are easier to imagine and are more suitable to create precise descriptions.
