Answer:

a. P(1 Sports illustrated and 3 Newsweek) =  \frac{100}{1001}

b. P(at least 2 Newsweek) = \frac{595}{1001}

We follow these steps to arrive at the answer:

The total number of magazines is 5+6+3 =14

Of these we need to choose 4 books randomly. Since order doesn’t matter here, we use combinations.

There are _{14}C_{4} ways to choose 4 books.

_{14}C_{4}=\frac{14!}{10!4!} = 1001 ways

1. 1. We need to choose 1 Sports illustrated and 3 newsweeks.

We can choose 1 Sports illustrated from 5 in _{5}C_{1} ways.

_{5}C_{1}=\frac{5!}{4!1!} = 5 ways

We can choose 3 issues of Newsweek in _{6}C_{3} ways.

_{6}C_{3}=\frac{6!}{3!3!} = 20 ways

So,

P(1 Sports Illustrated and 3 Newsweek) = \frac{_{6}C_{3} * _{5}C_{1}}{_{14}C_{4}}

P(1 Sports Illustrated and 3 Newsweek) = \frac{20 * 5}{1001}

P(1 Sports Illustrated and 3 Newsweek) = \frac{100}{1001}

2.<u> P(at least 2 Newsweek)</u>

Here we divide the number of books into two categories. One is the Newsweek Magazines (6), the other group consists of all other books (8).

P(at least 2 Newsweek) = 1 - [P(no Newsweek) + P(one newsweek)]

Now, if we have to find P(no newsweek), we first need to find the number of ways we can select 4 books from the group that does NOT contain Newsweek magazines.

We can calculate that by:

{ _{8}C_{4} = \frac{8!}{4!4!} = 70 ways

So,

P(no newsweek) = \frac{70}{1001}

We can compute P(1 Newsweek) as follows:

We can choose 1 Newsweek in _{6}C_{1} =\frac{6!}{5!1!} = 6 ways

We can choose 3 other books in _{8}C_{3} =\frac{8!}{5!3!} = 56 ways  So, P(at least 1 Newsweek) = [tex]\frac{6*56}{1001} or \frac{336}{1001}

Since

P(at least 2 Newsweek) = 1 - [P(no Newsweek) + P(one newsweek)],

P(at least 2 Newsweek) = 1 - [\frac{70}{1001} + \frac{336}{1001}]

P(at least 2 Newsweek) = 1 - [\frac{406}{1001}]

P(at least 2 Newsweek) = \frac{595}{1001}

When a fruit or vegetable (such as strawberries or lentils) is in season, the demand for it will increase as it becomes cheaper.
Olenka [21]

Answer: True

According to the law of demand, the demand for a good increases when its price falls. Thus, when a fruit or vegetable is in season, it is relatively less expensive than in off seasons. Thus, consumers buy more of these seasonal fruits in season. Thus, demand for the good increases when it becomes cheaper.

Thus, the statement is true.

IRISSAK [1]

At the Warren Technology center there is constant use of participative counseling towards workers. The company also is in charge of providing health care, dental plan expenses, food bonuses and money bonuses in short periods of 3-4 months. Workers inside Warren Technology enjoy their work; many paid employees affirm that the supervisors and managers are strict but friendly and they enjoy the presence of other workers. Also, participative counseling is mostly used inside the work place. Many employees that work inside the factory have sometimes family issues, things they would like to get off their chest, unresolved issues, etc. So, imposing inside Warren Technology a healthy and active “participative counseling” area, workers can be more productive, be sane, and mentally stabilized. Many workers at Warren Technology are Latinos and Americans. Both cultures differ a lot in terms of family matters, internal relationships, morals, etc. For example: a typical Latino family matters are “We don’t have enough money”, “There are too many people living inside the household”, “The church we go to make us pay a lot of money just to attend a sermon”, “My son/daughter is out of control, they have become rebellious and we need to give them more discipline”, “My mother/father won’t stop nagging”. American culture problems are usually more different. For example: an American will usually say “My wife and I don’t give each other as much love as we used to”, “The kids are all grown up and out of the house”, “I am so depressed and lonely”, “I need a partner”, etc. By providing competent and experienced personnel the workers feel more lifted in spirit, they enjoy their work more, and are glad they have a free service that can listen to their problems and give solemn positive and professional advice. Managers and supervisors from Warren Technology keep their eyes alert to see if any worker may feel down or may be in need of some emotional type of assistance. Once a manager or supervisor notices a pattern that is continuous they send the worker into participative counseling to help with their problems. While counseling the counselors need to make sure not to get too attached to the workers and employees, they need to maintain a distance so they won’t get emotionally attached to the employees that may come in or out of the office very frequently. A security agreement can sometimes be made in order to keep the workers case a secret, for personal records or sometimes it can be sold with the consent of the worker in order to give it to study labs and research facilities. A development plan is made between managers/supervisors and the staff who work as counselors in order to see what the workers need, how to make the job easier for everyone, and most importantly the way to help workers in the most efficient and effective way possible. Feedback mechanisms are also provided but in order to organize problems, projects, etc. Both employees and counselors need to cooperate together in order to make things fair and easier for everyone working inside Warren Technology. The same I myself would like to follow these same processes and procedures just as Warren Technology provide since they are very effective as well as productive and efficient and all the workers are very joyful and happy to work in this particular environment no matter in what department they are supposed to work in.

Hope this helps you :)
