In the 60's the were a lot of social movements supporting the LGBT cause and in 1969 the Stonewall riot, that took place in New York City, became a landmark for the gay liberation movement. It fought against police violence, homophobic legal and educational systems and other types of prejudice. The movement born on that day was unified and came from a long process of political effervescing against the status quo in many fronts. Things are still challenging today, but better for the LGBTTQ community than it was back then thanks to the gay liberation movement, that is still present and active.
