The 15th century's "the Council of Constance" approved by the Catholic Church, organized at the Bishopric of Constance in modern-day Germany from 1414 to 1418. Through depositing or approving the deposition of the residual papal claimants and by nominating Pope Martin V, the assembly terminated the Western Schism.

The council chose to serve the Church by one of the three established popes. The assembly also voted to transfer the pope from Avignon back to Rome. The assembly picked a new pope and granted him complete authority over the Church.
