It is true. As an example, according to the cognitive dissonance theory conflicting attitude triggers the attitude to change in order to restore the balance of the attitude. It is a cognitive consistency. When the attitude is conflicting, we change this attitude to get rid of the conflicting one. To give up from smoking because of the cancer is a typical example.
