To her, Atticus' defense of a black man is akin to disgrace for an old, established family like the Finches. Of course, she may truly think Tom deserves a fair trial, but she doesn't want her brother to be the one to ensure he gets it.

Men on the other hand think women are also superficial or sometimes they think all women are the same and they treat them like so when they want to establish a relationship with her. However, being different is what causes them to make the man chase and want to establish a connection with her.
