Craig Kielburger was motivated to start the organization when he was 12 and read a story about a Pakistani boy who died due to child labor. He decided to create the organization and raise awareness in North America about this problem and how it can be stopped. Now it deals with many more things like education and youth empowerment, not just preventing child labor.

Fundamental reason for this was Russia’s under-developed economy, which was mostly agricultural – in fact until the mid-1800s it was almost entirely agrarian, with only minimal manufacturing or industry. <span> Government incentives of the late 1800s instigated a sharp increase in industrial investment and manufacturing; French investors, attracted by government deals, cheap labour and tax breaks, had eagerly pumped money into Russia to construct factories and new mines. The American Revolution was precipitated, in part, by a series of laws passed between 1763 and 1775 that regulating trade and taxes. This legislation caused tensions between colonists and imperial officials, who made it clear that the British Parliament would not address American complaints that the new laws were onerous. British unwillingness to respond to American demands for change allowed colonists to argue that they were part of an increasingly corrupt and autocratic empire in which their traditional liberties were threatened. This position eventually served as the basis for the colonial Declaration of Independence<span>.</span>
