The sum of the first n positive odd numbers is square.
ololo11 [35]

Answer:

See explanation below

Step-by-step explanation:

All the odd numbers can be written as 2n-1 where n is an integer.

The sum (S) of the first n positive odd numbers can be written as:

S=1+3+5+.........+(2n-5)+(2n-3)+(2n-1)

If we change the order to a decreasing order we would write it this way:

S=(2n-1)+(2n-3)+(2n-5)+.........+5+3+1

Let's sum up both equations, we are going to pair the first number of our first equation with the first number of our second equation, we can see that each pair sums up 2n ( let's see this: (2n-1 + 1 =2n, 2n-3 + 3 = 2n, 2n-5 + 5 = 2n...)) therefore we would get n pairs that sum up 2n.

2S=n(2n)\\2S=2n^{2} \\S=n^{2}

Therefore, the sum of the first n positive odd numbers is square.

a line passes through the point -2 and five and has a slope of 2/3 points A(x,3) and B(-2,y)lie on the line
olasank [31]
A and B lie on the line, yes, but what specifically are you supposed to do?  Looks like your problem statement was cut off before you'd finished typing it in.

You say your line passes thru (-2,5) and has a slope of 2/3?  Then, using the point-slope formula,

y-5 = (2/3)(x+2)  This is the general equation for your line.

Now let's play around with B(-2,y).  Suppose we subst. the x-coordinate of B, which is -2, into the equation   y-5 = (2/3)(x+2); we get y-5 = (2/3)(-2+2) = 0.  This tells us that y must be 5.  But we already knew that!!

So, please review the original problems with its instructions and this discussion and tell me what you need to know from this point on.

If f(x) is an exponential function where f(4) =17 and f (12.5) = 31, then find the value of f(18.5), to the nearest hundredth.
Svetradugi [14.3K]
Solution: f(18.5)=31.47

Step by step solution:
I started by making an equation in slope intercept form- I found the slope, 28/17, with the points (4, 17) and (12.5, 31). Then I found the y intercept, 1, with the point (4, 17). So the equation is y=28/17x+1. Then I just plugged 18.5 where the x is and solved for y

28/17(18.5)+1=y
28/17(37/2)+1=y
1036/34+1= y
30.47+1=y
y=31.47

Keep in mind that 1036/34 is not exactly 30.47 but that 30.47 was rounded to the nearest hundredth

Hope this helps :)

Marcia biked 600 meters on friday. On saturday, she biked 3 kilometers. One sunday she biked 2 kilometers and 700 meters. How ma
zepelin [54]

Answer:

6.3 km.

Step-by-step explanation:

The question asks for kilometers, so all amounts have to be calculated in the same units -- kilometers.

Convert meters to kilometers.

600 m = .6 km

700 m = .7 km.

Add the amounts:

Fri.:       .6 km

Sat.     3 km

Sun.:   2.7 km.

--------------------------------

6.3 km.
