The stability of the hierarchy of animals. A shortage of vegetation would lead to animals not being able to provide enough for themselves. Too many tertiary animals would lead to a shortage of secondary and primary consumers, more tertiary consumers, too much vegetation, the tertiary consumers could not provide for themselves.
