The demand for wool increased in Britain in the early 1700s, which led to the development of the domestic system. In this labor system, the need for workers was met by families who produced goods in their own homes. This was helpful to workers in some ways, but did have disadvantages Work done in this way was very time consuming and tedious. Children were used as workers to help their families, and typically were only educated in skills needed to add to the family income.
