An example of two commonly exploited fungal species are Sacchromyces cervisiae and Streptococcus thermophilus.
Sacchromyces cervisiae is mainly used for bread production. Sacchromyces cervisiae is a yeast and as such is very active metabolically. Through its metabolism, produces CO_{2} from the fermentation of the cereal's sugars to alcohol<span> which makes bread rise.
</span><span>Streptococcus thermophilus are important on the yogurt industry. These bacteria ferment lactose (milk's sugar) producing lactic acid turning milk into yogurt.</span>
