This is an extremely clever question, and I think you got it right. The semishaded area on the lower left is 1/4 of the circle. The rest of the circle represents 3/4 of the circle. If you take 1/4 of the 3/4  that is left,  you have the answer. So that makes your answer correct.

You should try to see what the actual answer is. It might be confusing so I hesitate to include it. 1/4 * 3/4 = 3/16. Is there any way to tell that what is in the dark blue region is 3/16 of the circle? I don't think so, not directly.

The only way you can get the answer is by doing what you did. Nice work.

Answer:

Option 2.

Step-by-step explanation:

The given expression is

\frac{1}{4}\times \frac{3}{4}

We need to represent the given expression using circle.

\frac{1}{4}\times \frac{3}{4}=\frac{1\times 3}{4\times 4}=\frac{3}{16}

It means, if a circle is divided into 16 equal parts, then 3 out of 16 are shaded.

\frac{3}{4} = 3 parts out of 4.

\frac{1}{4} = 1 part out of 4.

\frac{1}{4}\times \frac{3}{4} = \frac{1}{4}th part of \frac{3}{4}th part of circle.

Only option 2 represents the correct value of given expression.

Therefore the correct option is 2.

Starting from the Pythagorean identity, we deduce

\sin^2(x)+\cos^2(x) = 1 \iff \cos^2(x) = 1-\sin^2(x) \iff \cos(x) = \pm\sqrt{1-\sin^2(x)}

If we plug in the value 7/10 for sin(x), we have

\cos(x) = \pm\sqrt{1-\dfrac{49}{100}} = \pm\sqrt{\dfrac{51}{100}}=\pm\dfrac{\sqrt{51}}{10}
