Answer: it meant the author of the text believed that the royal power should be absolute and that the King need not render any account of his actions.

Explanation: The author (Bishop Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet,) wrote that kings and queens should have absolute power and make all of the decisions because if they don't then they couldn't do any good or avert evil, but the glorious revolution convinced people that the monarchy shouldn't have all the power.

He went on to make comparison between God and the monarchy saying "As all perfection and all strength are united in God, so all the power of individuals is united in the person of the prince." Jacques-Bénigne Lignel Bossuet was a French bishop and theologian, renowned for his sermons and considered by many to be one of the most brilliant orators of all time.

What was Operation Desert Storm? How did it affect the country? What did it achieve?
timurjin [86]

Answer:

  1. The Atlantic mentions that Operation Desert Storm was carried out by George H.W. Bush and was "a military operation to expel occupying Iraqi forces from Kuwait, which Iraq had invaded and annexed months earlier." It was America's first military conflict since the Vietnam war, which is why it's so important.
  2. NY Times states that "The gulf crisis hurt consumer confidence and snagged business spending on new plant and equipment. The slide into recession, together with the steep costs of bailing out the savings and loan associations, deepened the Federal budget deficit," meaning that the economy in the United States was affected negatively.
  3. NY Times also states that Operation Desert Storm "cost the United States and its allies $60 billion and helped set off an economic recession caused in part by a spike in oil prices. For that war, the allies picked up almost 80 percent of the bill." The United States liberated Kuwait as a result.
