I am looking for the formula for this. Yuan needs to take a taxi to get to the movies. The taxi charges $3.50 for the first mile, and then $2.50 for each mile after that. If the total charge is $9.75, how far is Yuan's taxi ride to the movie?

9.75-3.50=2.50x
        6.25=2.50x
 6.25÷2.5=2.50x÷2.5
          2.5=x
