Suppose bacteria are grown on a petri dish that contains nutrient agar and the antibiotic ampicillin. After observing the bacter

ia growth on the plate for two days, you notice that only some of the bacteria have survived. What is a plausible explanation for your observations?
The bacteria that survived were transformed with a plasmid that contains the resistance gene for ampicillin.
The pili of the bacterial could not attach to the ampicillin.
Some of the bacterial DNA was not able to replicate because it lacked some of its own genetic material.
F plasmids were not present to transfer bacterial DNA.

The correct answer is: The bacteria that survived were transformed with a plasmid that contains the resistance gene for ampicillin.

During the process of transformation, bacteria take up foreign DNA from their environment. This property of bacteria is used for DNA cloning technique where plasmids are transferred inside bacteria. Plasmids usually contain gene for the antibiotic resistance, and that is used for the selection of transformed bacteria (bacteria with a plasmid are antibiotic-resistant).

Charles darwin theory of natural selection

Answer:

Four conditions are needed for natural selection to occur: reproduction, heredity, variation in fitness or organisms, variation in individual characters among members of the population. If they are met, natural selection automatically results.

Which part of the cell does this illustration represent?
VashaNatasha [74]

The right answer is Mitochondria.

Mitochondria are limited by two membranes with very different properties:

* The outer membrane is low in protein and contains a transmembrane protein, porin, which allows the passage of ions and water-soluble metabolites of molar mass <10,000 Da.

* In contrast, the inner membrane is very rich in proteins but it is almost impermeable to ions and water-soluble metabolites. These substances can only cross the membrane using transport membrane proteins (ATP, ADP and Pi are transported by this type of protein) or by more sophisticated mechanisms called shuttle.

* The space between these two membranes is called the intermembrane space.
