It made these societies more permanent in the sense that people started living in the same place because they were suddenly able to drink the water where they would station themselves, but they were also able to hunt and raise cattle and or other animals in these areas. All of this enabled a steady life during these times.

The civil war improved the economy of the north, but harmed the economy of the south. The south relied heavily on agriculture/ producing cotton on slave worked plantations. The civil war led the slaves to finally be freed thus sending many southern farmers into poverty.
