Technically, the volume of the surface would be the surface area, but assuming that's what you're referring to, and that the thickness of the waste basket doesn't add any extra volume/area, this is how you would solve that:
SA=2(wh+lw+lh)
SA=2[3/4(2)+1 1/2(3/4)+1 1/2(2)]
SA=2(1 1/2+1 1/8+3)
SA=2(45/8)
SA=11 1/4 ft

If there is no lid, you would subtract the lw:
SA=2(wh+lh)
SA=2[3/4(2)+1 1/2(2)]
SA=2(1 1/2+3)
SA=2(4 1/2)
SA=9 ft

Sarah and her 4 friends share some cookies. If each person gets 3 cookies, how many cookies were shared? Write a mathematical eq
Darya [45]

Equation:

3 x 5 = 15

15 cookies is the answer.

Sarah and her 4 friends are 5 people in total.

They are each getting 3 cookies.

You are adding three cookies for each friend. That is the same as multiplying 5 times.

What is the solution to this system of equations?
77julia77 [94]

Answer:

(x,y) = (3, 1/2)

Step-by-step explanation:

This pair of linear equations may be solved simultaneously by using the elimination method. This will involve ensuring that the coefficient of one of the unknown variables is the same in both equations..

To solve this, add the equations;

x + 2x + 2y - 2y = 4 + 5

3x = 9

x = 3

substitute the value of x into the first equation,

3 + 2y = 4

2y = 4 -3

2y = 1

y = 1/2
