Refer to Explorations in Literature for a complete version of this poem. Which statement best expresses a theme in the poem "Lov

e Is Not All" by Edna St. Vincent Millay? Love is dangerous, but people require it all the same. Love hurts everyone, but no one can live without it. Love cannot sustain one, but it is nonetheless deeply important. Love cannot harm a person, and yet many fear it.

The best statement that expresses the theme of Love is not all is ''Love cannot sustain one, but it is nonetheless deeply important''.

Explanation:

Edna St. Vincent Millay’s poems have always been melancholic. In this beautiful poem Love is not All, Edna writes about love but in a slight derogatory way. She feels that love is not everything as it cannot fulfill the basic needs and desires like hunger, thirst, shelter.

It cannot be the air that people breathe nor will come as a helping hand as people sink. However love is important as it gives a ray of hope and acts an emotional support in times of hopelessness and crisis. Therefore the third option describes the theme of the poem best.
