A developer wants to know if the houses in two different neighborhoods were built at roughly the same time. She takes a random s

ample of six houses from each neighborhood and finds their ages from local records. The accompanying table shows the data for each sample (in years). Assume that the data come from a distribution that is Normally distributed. Complete parts a through c below.
Neighborhood 1:

53, 67, 48, 63, 68, 43

Neighborhood 2:

44, 35, 39, 43, 46, 57

(a) Test the null hypothesis at a=0.05 using the pooled t-test. Identify the null and alternative hypotheses.

Compute the t-statistic. Let the difference of the sample means be y1-y2 (round to three decimal places)

Find the P-value. (round to four decimal places as needed)

State the conclusion. Recall that a=0.05.

REJECT or FAIL to REJECT H0. There is SUFFICIENT or INSUFFICIENT evidence to reject the claim that the mean age of houses is the same in the two neighborhoods.

(b) Find a 95% confidence interval using the pooled degrees of freedom.

__, __

(c) A 95% confidence interval for the mean difference in ages of houses in the two neighborhoods was (1.11, 24.89) Is this result different than the result of the pooled t-confidence interval? Explain why or why not. Choose the correct answer below.

- Yes. Since the means are fairly close, the two methods will result in essentially the same confidence intervals and hypothesis tests.

- Yes. Since the standard deviations are fairly close, the two methods will result in essentially the same confidence intervals and hypothesis tests.

- No. Since the standard deviations are fairly close, the two methods will result in essentially the same confidence intervals and hypothesis tests.

- No. Since the means are fairly close, the two methods will result in essentially the same confidence intervals and hypothesis tests.i

The base of a 13 foot ladder is 5 feet away from the wall. How far up the wall does the ladder reach? A)8 feet B)10 feet C)12 fe
Lisa [10]

You are solving for the height. Use the formula:

c² - b² = a²      in which c = hypotenuse

(13)² - (5)² = a²

Simplify

169 - 25 = a²

144 = a²

Isolate the a. Root both sides

√144 = √a²

a = √144

a = √(12 x 12)

a = 12

C) 12 feet is your answer

The square pyramid has a volume of 768 cubic inches. The height equals 1/6x and the base is just x. What is the value of x ?
Lunna [17]
The volume for a pyramid is V= \frac{1}{3} Bh, where B is the area of the base and h is the height.  We are given the volume, and the base and height in terms of x.  Our formula then looks like this: 768= \frac{1}{3} (x)( \frac{1}{6} x).  Simplifying the right side we have 768= \frac{1}{18} x^{2}.  Multiply both sides by 18 to get rid of the fraction and we have 13824= x^{2}, so x = 117.575

Are these factors equivalent or nonequivalent?
dusya [7]
I'm pretty sure the above fractions are equivalent because if you reduce 5s/15t then it equals s/3t.
