An example of this may have happened with the map created by John Ferrar, which shows the China Sea and the Indians on the other side of Virginia. With that, the cartographer wanted to stimulate the visit of European explorers to northern maerica, stating that North America would establish an easier sea route to reach China or India.

In short, many maps had their information modified so that colonialist objectives were achieved.
