How is a gene different from an allele?

Biology

Answer:

A gene is a fragment of DNA, the allele is a possible variation of a gene.

Explanation:

Genes contain hereditary information, that codes this information for the transmission of inherited traits.

Each gene resides at a specific location on a <em>chromosome</em>, in two copies, one inherited from each parent.

These copies are not necessarily the same.

When the copies of a gene differe from each other, they are called alleles.

Even genes may have multiple alleles, only two alleles are present  at the gene's locus on any individual.

I hope it helps!

Which of these individuals is likely to be most successful in an evolutionary sense?
IrinaVladis [17]

Answer:

The correct options is B.

Explanation:

Evolution has to do with the changes that occur in a particular population of organism as a results of environmental changes and other pressure that the population is exposed to and how the organism adapt to counter the changes.

Out of all the options given in this question, the individual that is most likely to be successful in an evolutionary sense is the one describe in option B. This is because, the organism has a short life span of five days and it left behind ten children that are capable of reproducing. Evolution is a process that occur over a long period of time. So, if it an environmental change occur in the environment where the organism lives, it will be easier for the new generation and the subsequent generations of the organism to adapt to the change.

Those organisms that have long life span will not be able to adapt as easily as the organisms in options B because it will take many years and many generations for them to do that.

What does having multiple alleles mean? Give an example of a human multiple allele traits.
bagirrra123 [75]

Alleles are versions of a gene that will express different qualities.  Multiple alleles would mean that a gene has many variations; for example, there a multiple alleles for eye color: blue, green, brown, etc.  The opposite would be a gene with just two variations; an example would be simple pea plants which can have smooth or wrinkled pods.

Hope this helps!!

Which of the following functions is NOT a characteristic of proteins?
miv72 [106K]
The proteins are biomolecules which can act as hormones and enzyme catalysts which can help in catalyzing the chemical reactions. They help in the transport of the molecules and cell membrane trafficking. The proteins are antibodies which can bind to antigens and the foreign materials. The genetic information is carried by the genes in the DNA, and not proteins.
Thus, the correct answer is option 'They contain genetic information.
