Answer: A primary source is something that was in that timeline of the event.  Such as the Constitution. Or abraham lincoln is a primary source.   Just anything that was made or alive during the timeline.

I would go with political parties since they were developed during the same time as the constitution and is broader than just democrats (the democratic party was founded in the early 1820s.)
