Mr. Hernandez's backyard is shaped like a trapezoid with a height of 10 m, a top base of 15 m, and a bottom base of 19 m. In his backyard, he has a circular vegetable garden whose radius is 3 m. What is the area of the backyard without the garden? Use 3.14 for pi.

I just got finished taking the test. I was confused with the previous answer. I didnt know if the answer was 170 or 141.74. I got an 80, the answer was 141.74, just clearing that up.

The area of the trapezoid would be 
(10 m) (15m + 19m)/2 = 170m^2. 

The area of the circle would be pi*(3m)^2 
= (3.14)(9m^2) = 28.26 m^2. 

Subtract the 28.26 from the 170.00 and you get 141.74...
