the high score for a video game is 36,480. Your current score is 34,280. Each dragonfly you catch is worth 1 point. you also get

1000-point bonus for reaching 35,000 points. Write and solve an inequality to represent the number of dragonflies you must catch to earn a new high score

We know you need at least 36,480-34,280= 2,200 points to earn a new high score.

When you reach 35,000-34,280= 720 more points to meet the bonus.

After getting 720 dragonflies and the bonus of 1000 points, you have a total of 36,000 points. To beat your high score, you need more than 480 more dragonflies.

You then add up all the dragonflies to get that you need more than 1200 dragonflies.

So, I'm not in college yet, but I assume that the answer might be
x > 1200
Which means that you have to get more than 1200 dragonflies if the number of dragonflies you catch is x,

How do I do this I really don't understand anything here

The red arrows show that the lines are parallel, but using the stuff given you can make an equation.
its hard to explain without drawing but starting from the 60 if you can make a Z you will get alternate angles and that mean that the given equation MUST be equal to 60. So,

8x-4=60

8x=60+4

8x=64

x=64/8

x=8 (is your answer)

Ya idk how to do this plz help explain if you can
Svet_ta [14]

Answer:

 92 attendees had activity cards

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the number of students with activity cards. Then 130-x is the number without, and the total revenue is ...

 7x +10(130 -x) = 1024

 7x +1300 -10x = 1024 . . . . eliminate parentheses

 -3x = -276 . . . . . . . . . . . . . collect terms; subtract 1300

 x = 92 . . . . . . divide by 3

92 students with activity cards attended the dance.

_____

Comment on the solution

Often, you will see such a problem solved using two equations. For example, they might be ...

Let 'a' represent the number with an activity card; 'w' the number without. Then ...

 • a+w = 130 . . . . the total number of students
 • 7a +10w = 1024 . . . . the revenue from ticket sales

The problem statement asks for the value of 'a', so you want to eliminate w from these equations. You can do that using substitution. Using the first equation to write an expression for w, you have ...

 w = 130-a

and making the substitution into the second equation gives ...

 7a +10(130 -a) = 1024

This should look a lot like the equation we used above. There, we skipped the extra variable and went straight to the single equation we needed to solve.
